THE STORY BEHIND IT

The beginnings: Schreinerei Walter Schatzl was founded in 1954 in Passau, but early on developed beyond conventional furniture into a funeral business – which it still is today.

Family business: On September 15, 1980, my parents founded their own carpentry workshop in the adjacent building. I spent a large part of my childhood and youth there. As a child, the things in the workshop weren't necessarily the most exciting – because everything was simply there as a matter of course. But through being there, watching, smelling, and doing, a deep connection grew from the earliest times.

My path: In autumn 1995, I decided to follow our family's craft tradition and began my apprenticeship as a carpenter.

Munich: When I moved my life to Munich, I founded SCHATZL Fine Furniture in October 2015.

Japan connection: In 2020, the cooperation with ISHINOMAKI LAB from Japan began, which is very valuable and means a lot to me.

Fresh start: Finally, the long-awaited move to my new workshop in the Werksviertel is almost done – I'm incredibly excited about this.
