Materials and Tools
You learn the fundamentals of wood as a material. The tools required and their range of application give you a sense of what's possible.
Planning / Construction
The wood for your piece arrives already cut to size; the following steps you learn to work through yourself. For this it helps to know construction principles, understand structural properties, and be able to read drawings.
Measuring and Marking
Before work on the piece can begin, the raw material needs to be marked out to indicate the reference points for the coming steps.
Joinery Techniques
Methods of joining different parts are central to the construction of wooden furniture. I aim to teach you the most important ones.
Hands-On Work
The concrete application and realisation of the project is the core of the workshop and will bring you a range of insights and new skills, depending on your level of experience.
Surface Treatment
A number of different surface treatment methods exist for wooden furniture. The choice is usually made based on intended use or expected wear.
Design
A few basic principles of good design can already achieve a great deal as guidance for your own projects. They reliably prevent uncertainty at the design stage.
Tool Care and Sharpening
To achieve lasting good results with hand tools, care and maintenance of wood and metal parts, as well as of cutting edges, is essential.
